Darien, Connecticut
Nielsen’s Florist in Darien, CT, a three-generation family-operated business, was seeking an expansion and renovation of their existing florist and garden shop that first opened in 1944. The original cape-style house was retained and renovated as an architectural gem, saluting the family history, and a stunning English-style conservatory, was added as a central showpiece. The soaring, light-filled structure became a focal destination for shoppers, and further recreated itself in time as a destination for social gatherings, café and business events. The renovation not only contributed to the tremendous increase in business profits, but allowed the inspired adaptation of a business which successfully navigated a changing economy, times and clientele to remain at the heart of its community.
